Two companies were named today to oversee construction of the Los Angeles Rams’ planned stadium in Inglewood at the former site of Hollywood Park Racetrack.
Turner Construction Co., headquartered in New York but with dozens of offices across the United States and Canada, and Los Angeles-basedAECOMwill form a joint venture to oversee construction of the 70,000-seat stadium, which is expected to cost roughly $1.9 billion.
“After a competitive review of a number of outstanding construction firms, we have hired the best team to build the largest and most technologically advanced sports stadium in the world for the Los Angeles Rams,” said Terry Fancher, president of Hollywood Park Land Co. “These firms also offered a well-developed plan for meeting Hollywood Park’s commitment to provide substantial employment opportunities for local Inglewood residents and meaningful economic participation in the stadium construction process for minority-owned business enterprises.”
According to Hollywood Park Land Co., the two companies have built 17 NFL stadiums and renovated 10 others, and they are two of the largest builders of sports venues in the world.
“This is a key milestone in the process of bringing the NFL and the Rams back to Los Angeles,” said Kevin Demoff, the Rams’ chief operating officer and executive vice president of football operations. “While we will call the L.A. Coliseum home for the next three seasons, we are pleased to work with Turner/AECOM to build our new stadium in Inglewood. This world-class venue will showcase not only NFL games, but also international and national events, in 2019 and beyond.”
The stadium is expected to include 275 luxury suites, more than 16,000 premium seats and have nearly 3 million square feet of usable space. It will also provide standing room for 27,000 spectators in addition to its seating capacity of up to 70,000.
According to the companies, the stadium construction will provide more than 3,500 on-site construction jobs in Inglewood and more than 10,000 jobs by the time it is completed.
